Empathy, resilience, and overwhelming beauty are front and center in this program.
At the heart of Kati Agócs’ trio Queen of Hearts “is the idea of resilience,” says Agócs, noting that the work’s variation structure “reveals an inner strength and emotional core that hold steadfast and unshaken no matter how they are tested.” Written for the Claremont Trio in 2017, the work is atmospheric, minimalist, but builds on a passacaglia, an old Baroque form. Sam Suggs returns with his original composition for bass and piano, the beehive – an intense, bold, and uneasy commentary on our disintegrating environment.
Lastly, join us to experience one of the most awe-inspiring chamber works: Messiaen’s epic Quatuor pour la fin du temps (Quartet for the End of Time). The work was conceived in a prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz, Germany and performed by instrumentalists held captive there.
All tickets non-refundable. Program is subject to change.
