SONATAS AND PARTITAS FOR SOLO VIOLIN BY JOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH
Friday, January 24, 2025 at 7 PM

St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church
6000 Grove Ave., Richmond, VA 23226

“Violinist Nicholas DiEugenio played with rapturous poetry.”

– AMERICAN RECORD GUIDE

Returning from our 2024-25 Season Opener, DiEugenio performs selections of the monumental sonatas and partitas of Johann Sebastian Bach Sonatas on baroque violin. This performance will be accompanied by generous displays of original artwork by Nicholas.

In-demand as a soloist, chamber musician, and ensemble leader, Nicholas creates powerful shared experiences in music ranging from early baroque to contemporary commissions. A core member of the Sebastians, a period group hailed as “topnotch” by the New Yorker and “sharp-edged and engaging” by The New York Times, Nicholas also performs and records with pianist and wife Mimi Solomon.

SECOND PERFORMANCE

Sunday, September 25, 2022

Bach’s monumental D major cello suite opens the second Belvedere program with triumph and joy. We continue in the Baroque idiom with the Handel/Halversen variations, which is a gradual intensification of sonic sheen and then conclude the concert with Schumann’s deeply Romantic piano quartet. Written in his “Year of Chamber Music”, Clara Schumann, his wife and brilliant pianist, was the true inspiration for the work.
